<h1 id="markdown-syntax"><a aria-hidden="true" tabindex="-1" href="#markdown-syntax"><span class="icon icon-link"></span></a>Markdown Syntax</h1>
<p>This Markdown cheat sheet provides a quick overview of all the Markdown syntax elements. It can’t cover every edge case, so if you need more information about any of these elements, refer to the reference guides for <a href="https://www.markdownguide.org/basic-syntax">basic syntax</a> and <a href="https://www.markdownguide.org/extended-syntax">extended syntax</a>.</p>
<p>You can have lists like this</p>

<p>You can make headers using the <code>#</code> like this:</p>

<p>If you forget the space between the <code>#</code> and the text, congratulations, you've made a</p>

<p>In the right-hand sidepane in Obsidian, you can also view a tag explorer to help you navigate your materials.</p>
<p>You can make a link to another note in your vault by typing<br>
<code>[[</code> and then scroll through the popup of note titles, or start typing the name of a new note you want to make at that spot; eg <code>[[this note doesn't exist yet]]</code> but if I clicked on that link in Obsidian I'd get a new note with that title.</p>
<p>You can make a link to a website like this: <code>[link text](https://some.website.com)</code> changing up 'link text' and the url, obviously. <strong>nb</strong> there is no space between the square bracket bit and the parentheses.</p>
<p>Within obsidian, you can drag and drop images right in. This will create a copy of the image inside your vault. Then, start typing:</p>

<p>and the file selector will open. Select the filename for the image you want, hit enter, and ta da!</p>
<p>For notes and images that you want to push online, just make sure that the images are in the main <code>website</code> folder (if you're a github newcomer) (or the <code>\docs\</code> folder if you're using git at the command line and have cloned the repository into your vault, in which case you can git commit and git push everything).</p>
<p>THEN, just drag and drop the images and notes via the 'upload files' button on Github, when you are on the <code>\docs\</code> subfolder in your repository.</p>
<p>For folks comfortable with tweaking things, there is more formatting options for your eventual webpage <a href="https://squidfunk.github.io/mkdocs-material/reference/formatting/#highlighting-changes">here</a> (but note that these will not render within Obsidian on your machine).</p>
<p>To Embed blocks of text into another note:<br>
Add the <code>^</code> character within the link at the end of the note name to bring up the individual parts; hit enter to select the block of text you want; then place a <code>!</code> in front, like so: <code>![[name-of-note^54234]]</code>). Obsidian will embed the paragraph at that location into your note.</p>

<p>These elements extend the basic syntax by adding additional features. Not all Markdown applications support these elements.</p>
